The Maya ruins at Edzna are pristine.  Located about forty-minutes from Ciudad de Campeche, Edzna is a relatively easy and inexpensive drive by taxi.  The site was uncrowded, except for the profusion of mosquitos, and was very accessible by foot. Edzna proved to be an instant favorite amongst ruin sites I’ve visited so far.  The architecture is stunning, and the setting is well maintained without being overly manicured—and there were no vendors or hawkers to disturb its tranquility.  It was just a beautiful site, and well worth the short drive and visit if one is traveling to Campeche.  I find that color tends to distract from the incredible architecture, thus I prefer the B&W treatment. It also gives the photographic impression of a 19th Century exploration.
