Convento de la Merced is located in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.  The Spanish Friars settled in San Cristobal in 1624, and began construction on the Convent in 1736 and completed construction in 1774.  It is a beautiful old structure and has been fully and lovingly restored.  San Cristobal is located in the center of Chiapas at an altitude of 7,000 feet above sea level. Among other things, San Cristobal is known for its abundant and high-grade Amber (fossilized pine tree resin).  This beautiful former Convent, high-up in the cloud-shrouded mountains of Chiapas, exudes peace and tranquility.  And the prayer flags snapping in the wind are reminesent of Tibet or Nepal.

Photographer’s notes:  Image captured with a Canon PowerShot G15 camera, 1/2000s @ f/4.0, ISO 80, FL=28mm.  All editing performed in PSE11.
