While strolling on El Malecon, fronting the Caribbean Ocean, in Baracoa, Cuba, I came upon a wonderful sight: A woodworker using an old fashioned bench plane. With the plethora of power tools in the world, it’s refreshing to see someone who actually knows how to use hand tools. As a boy I was raised with hand tools, and I’m proud to say that I still know how to use them to full advantage. Hand tools can be subtle, whereas power tools can have the opposite effect. As this woodworker concentrated on the task at hand, I grabbed a few quick shots from across the street.
