The very essence of instinct is that it’s followed independently of reason

– Charles Darwin

Often weighing in at over 300 kilo’s, the Giant Galapagos Tortoise may be the epitome of the above statement.  A huge, four-legged, roving lawnmower.  I first saw these amazing creatures as a kid visiting the San Diego Zoo.  They had a large collection there, and I was blown away by their sheer size.  And I wanted one so bad.  Seeing them in their natural habitat was an amazing experience to say the least.  It is estimated that there are about 30,000 tortoises left in Galapagos, a hundred years ago that number was closer to 500,000.
