I mentioned in earlier posts that I had to extend my stay in Lima for a month to get my Canon lens repaired. Lima is the only city in Peru with an authorised Canon repair facility. True to their word my lens was ready and waiting this morning (a little unusual for Latin America), and only cost me a  $164 USD. A new lens would have cost me $1,000 USD (assuming I could find one), so I consider myself to be a bit ahead of the game.

I love my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens for travel photography. Its focal length range is perfect on a full-frame camera, going from wide-angle to a modest telephoto, and I have it on my camera body about 90% of the time. There have been some complaints about image quality (IQ), but it’s a L-lens (professional) and I get tack-sharp stellar images with it. Can’t please everyone I guess. My other two travel lenses are the EF 70-200m f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom and EF 400mm f/5.6L USM Super-telephoto Prime.

I have a couple of more errands here in Lima, and then I should finally be on the road once again. I’ll probably leave this next week, or early the following week. Cusco is the next stop, and of course Machu Picchu. Cusco is reportedly beautiful, and I think the rainy season is ending (but you never know until you get there).
