The Wine Bottle Dance From Fiddler on the Roof

Chaim Topol playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof

Take it from a photographer who knows light (and classic movies) the Wine Bottle Dance scene from the 1971 movie Fiddler on the Roof is extraordinary. The cinematography is simply amazing—from the dim interior lighting, to the slow-motion dance steps, to the dust being kicked up from the dirt floor during the dance sequence. Add a superb soundtrack and you simply have perfection—I’m not sure its ever been done better. If you’ve never watched Fiddler on the Roof on stage or screen you’re denying yourself a truly remarkable experience—they chose to film the movie version outside the town of Zagreb, Yugoslavia.
