Cinema 101: Night Train to Lisbon

Stephen F. Dennstedt

I have a lot of interests. Among them are good movies or as the Brits would say: the cinema. I just watched a humdinger of a movie on YouTube for free—Night Train to Lisbon. It was released in 2013 so it’s not a classic film but it shares many of the same qualities of a classic film. Romance and intrigue among them.

Night Train is a “Think Piece.” It is character driven—no action and no CGI (thank God). The film features a fine ensemble cast including Jeremy Irons and the cinematography is exquisite (beginning in Bern, Switzerland and winding up in Lisbon, Portugal). Like fine literature the Brits usually do cinema rather well I think.

Another great British movie you might consider is: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011). Filmed on location in India (like Slumdog Millionaire) it also features a stellar ensemble cast of mostly British actors pushing forward a strong character-driven plot. The link (below) to Night Train takes you to a high-grade YouTube FREE video. If you have Netflix you might choose to go that route but if not I think you will find this YouTube download more than adequate. Enjoy.
